They are balanced and can be used in either direction of rotation. The energizing springs hold the seal faces together from outside the stuffing box, keeping them from clogging and losing compression. By making all of our seal faces "hard faces" your seals will last. In the short run our ASP SCS will help reduce your mechanical seal cost. A cartridge type mechanical seal is a pre-assembled package of seal components making installation much easier with fewer points for potential installation errors to occur. A cartridge seal will have the following elements: Gland, Sleeve, Seal faces (2 or 4), an energizing force source (single spring, multiple springs, metal bellows, or elastomer), and a lock collar to set it to the shaft.
The assembly is "pre-set" so that no installed length calculations must be performed for determining where to set the seal. This pre-set is achieved by the use of "set tabs" that are removed once the seal is installed and the pump assembled.
